Do you remember the kid in school who always got in trouble for socializing in class, and talking to their “neighbor” (as the teachers liked to call it) or just being plain disruptive? Well, I WAS THAT KID!!!
I was a late bloomer (as far as radio is concerned)…I took a radio 101 class when I was 30 years old. I was doing it because I like music and being a single mom of 2 girls, thought it would be a nice break to get out of the house. It wasn’t something I did to get a job, it was supposed to be kind of a hobby. Well after I completed my radio 101 class for the fall quarter…my teacher said, “your ready to get a job now!” What? I thought my teacher was crazy but was tired of being a housewife I decided to go for it. Well…to my surprise I got the job and began my radio career. I started at KITI in Centralia on a station called LIVE 95 FM. There I worked on 3 stations; LIVE 95, a Hot Oldies Station KITI AM, and was then added to afternoons on 94.5 ROXY in Olympia. After 4 years I then took a job working for Jodesha Broadcasting here in Aberdeen, Washington. I began on Sunny 102.1, then moved to 105.7 the Jet, and now finally have my very first morning show on our New Country Station Bigfoot 93.7 KANY. So I guess it all worked out in the end.
Now my girls are growing up and I have a career I didn’t even plan on. How cool is that? Who knew getting in trouble for talking in class could actually make me a living!!
